Perhaps ‘conceptual art’ isn’t art. It’s just that artists have realised these things called ‘ideas’, they’ve discovered intellectual discussion. The scientist, designer, breadmaker, teacher, engineer and postman can have a beautiful idea but you don’t see them readily calling themselves artists. In a way the intellectual discussions going on in the art world could easily be done without the artworks entirely. Like, you don’t need the artwork to imagine a urinal with the initials R.Mutt inscribed on it to ‘see’ it and certainly, seeing the object in person doesn’t really help towards decoding the idea and understanding the postmodern/anti-art discussion that it tried to provoke.

Perhaps ‘conceptual art’ is just clever ideas to talk about and not actual works of art.

Perhaps artists have become so obsessed with what’s in their head that they’ve forgotten how to use their hands.
